a short getaway to..napa!

Last Sunday, SW and I had to make a short trip to Napa…poor us.  jk!  what I really mean is, lucky us! of course i was totally looking forward to it!  good food, good wine, it’s hard not to enjoy.

i made a brunch reservation at Thomas Keller’s (the French Laundry) casual, family style restaurant:

“the idea for ad hoc was simple – 5 days a week we’d offer a 4 course family style menu that changed each day, accompanied by a small, accessible wine list in a casual setting reminiscent of home. we wanted a place to dine for our community and ourselves.”

SW & I have both been before, but thought it would be nice to go again.  Their menu changes daily..

which really makes things easier for both the restaurant, and the diners as well!

Food comes out pretty quickly, but of course, still very good, and ingredients are very fresh.

“mixed greens salad: pickled yellow wax beans, red onions, tfl cucumber, garnet grapes, toasted almonds, shaved fennel, dill yogurt dressing”
this was nice refreshing starter..a good combo of ingredients–ones that you don’t see together too often.

eggs benedict

“eggs benedict: hobbs’ canadian bacon, poached hen egg, bouchon bakery english muffin, crispy marble potatoes, broccolini, ice-top carrots, tomato emulsion”
i always really enjoy eggs benedict, and this version was quite tasty! i loved the potatoes and veggies too!  i even enjoyed the buttery muffin tops lol

we chose to add on:

“lemon poppy seed pancakes: vanilla butter, maple syrup, blueberry compote”
yummy as well, and just the perfect portion to share–dainty little pancakes. the blueberry compote + vanilla butter were great, but not overpowering, you could still taste the lemon too

panna cotta

“vanilla panna cotta: strawberry sauce, shortbread cookies”
the sauce was a little sweet for me, but once i broke up the cookie and put it in the jar, it was great and added a nice crunch

behind the restaurant, you can see their garden!

after brunch, we took a recommendation for a winery from a napa local, and visited:

the view was quite nice, especially sitting next to the infinity pool..

super relaxing and fun day!
