celebration with ‘the tomahawk’!

SW and I decided to we needed to have a nice lil celebratory dinner last weekend, so we decided to treat ourselves to :

we started with:

chilled english pea soup | soft-shell crab / chili mint / pickled ramp

the soup was refreshing and the soft shell crab was quite tasty too

and of course the hamachi shots that Alexander’s is known for..

i’ve mentioned this before, but ever since tasting the deliciously melt-in-your-mouth Japanese Wagyu at Keiko a Nob Hill (see KEIKO a nob hill X 2), i’ve sort of fallen in love with it…and had to try it again at Alexander’s.  This time, i splurged on the real Japanese Wagyu..not Australian, like the previous time (see speaking of salts…)

it was tender and buttery..the accompanying salt platter always makes things more interesting and can really change the flavor.  keiko’s is still #1 though!

to supplement our wagyu portion, we got

tomahawk chop for two | charcoal roasted giant ribeye / wasabi butter / veal glace

all other steaks list a weight, for example, grilled filet mignon 6 or 10 oz, dry aged t-bone 24oz…for the tomahawk, it just says “big”! and BIG it was…

brentwood corn gratin  | camembert / harissa / corn bread crumble

mashed potatoes | chicken cracklings and white gravy

and as always..their flavored cotton candy — saturday night’s flavor was cherry lime!
